The history of one of the oldest and most beautiful Orthodox churches in Tyumen – Znamensky Cathedral – is 150 years. It is known that a small church in honor of the icon of the Mother of God of the Sign was founded in the first half of the 17th century, and then it was completed with the support of merchants, ordinary people, and patrons of art. And now, it has become a beautiful temple.
Its main shrine is the icon of the Mother of God of the Sign. It is believed, that in 1852 the icon helped to defeat the Tyumen cholera and after that was recognized as a miracle-working one.
In the Znamensky Cathedral, you can see the ancient bells cast before the revolution by The Gilyov Trading House P.I. Sons Tyumen company. Until 1992, the bells served in the Far Eastern lighthouses of the Primorye Territory.
